A Motivational Map® is a self-perception online inventory that assists individuals, teams and their organisations to identify, explore and plan using an increased understanding of individual and team motivators. The tool analyses responses and generates a report that reveals each person’s key motivators AND their level of motivation. Each report is followed by an individual debrief of the results, to clarify and further draw out future action to increase motivation where it matters.

What is it based on?

Motivational Maps were developed after extensive research into human motivation and a study of three primary sources:Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Edgar Schein’s Career Anchors and the Enneagram, a personality profiling tool.

Each Map is based on three clusters of motivation:motivation through your relationships, motivation through your own achievements and motivation through your individual growth.

How is it used?

Research has shown that individuals vary in their primary motivators. Individuals may not even be aware of which motivators are important to them nor how these motivators interact with one another.

Mapping motivations is the critical, often missing step to creating robust frameworks for change and or success. To empower productivity and performance, organisations and businesses use Motivational Maps to help enhance processes such as:

  • Employee Engagement
  • Performance Management Programmes
  • Workforce Planning and Staff Retention
  • Induction and Onboarding
  • Skills and Training Investment
  • Personality and Psychometric Profiling
  • Leadership and Development
  • Employee Innovation and Cultural Change Programmes
  • Talent Acquisition and Talent Management
  • Career Management
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Executive Remuneration and Incentives

It is a true change management tool. This means that it works not just on the level of ‘thinking’ about organisational problems, but addressing the issue of ‘feelings’ within the organisation. The report is ideal for developing an individual through coaching or mentoring.

What is different about Motivational Maps?

A Motivational Map® is unique in that it not only analyses the motivators but also highlights where the primary motivators reinforce or conflict with one another. It also measures and monitors motivation levels which means that people (and organisations) can address the issue of motivation in the same way they would their physical health, by paying conscious attention to it.

A Motivational Map report provides for an action plan to address any current issues, enhance existing levels of motivation or provide a framework for future career/organisation directions.

Team and Organisational Maps

Teams – Together we achieve more

Motivational Maps® for Teams – build on the strengths of team members working together. Most teams are assembled on the basis of relevant and complementary skill sets; what motivates the individuals in the team is often not considered at all.  Indeed, conflicts between individuals are often attributed to ‘personality’ clashes. However, these clashes may well be, and often are, motivational in origin.

Teams and organisational units are mapped though a combination of the individual maps. Each individual still receives a personal Map but a Team Map is developed and analysed. This Team Map is presented in a workshop. This provides valuable information for the manager, establishing the current motivation levels of the team and which motivators dominate the team. Each Team Map report contains eleven key reward strategies as well as a Change Index Score, showing how ready for change that particular team is.

Team Maps enable leaders to be able to:

  • Determine whether the energies of the team are harmonised with mission
  • Identify possible internal conflicts that need addressing
  • Provide strategies that motivate the team.
